A brief intro

The idea behind this site is rather simple. We hope to put together a comprehensive guide for beginners setting up their first Web site.

Many places online offer people a way to set up a Web site. But what if new website owners don't have a clue where to start? What should they look for or consider, when putting together an entire site? You can find plenty of so-called guides on how to set up a Web site, but they're rather pathetic, from what we see. That's usually because they either offer a 4-point list limited to only 100 words, or they go the route of brain surgery lingo. Either way, it isn't usually very helpful for people new to the world of Internet sites.

What we offer is a thorough, informative discussion in simple-to-understand language, for people just getting started. The information is written for the average person, not the experienced Web master. As the site grows, we intend to also offer Images and videos, where possible. We'll try to cover the most important information about getting a new website owners first site online.

Note that this is not a "How to build a website" tutorial site. It's about how to get a new site online for the beginner. Whether they're creating a site from scratch or using a template to "do it yourself," our goal is to help them understand the underlying process that puts them online. We also offer a basic forum system, which we think will be beneficial to our visitors. And, we've registered an example domain name, thepaperclipdepot.com, to use in example situations throughout the site.

How you can help

As you can see, we have a start on it, however there are a few things we could use help with. We're not experts in every, or any, area of website technology, but have enough knowledge to get a site built and up and running.

First of all, if you browse through the top menu and sub-menu areas, you'll see what we've included, and how each area is written. We hope to expand these areas, as well as correct and fill in what is already there if need be. Some of our current content likely contains errors, or could use some rewording to help with clarity. If you have suggestions or thoughts about copywriting, proofing, or editorial additions, we would appreciate your input by using our Contact Us form.

Secondly, extended areas like marketing, blogging, etc. would be a great addition, and would be better off having information written by very knowledgeable people in those fields. These would be content pages that are basic information pages, i.e. will be permanent informational guides like what we already have on the site. Betond that, we would also like to have new articles added on a somewhat regular basis. If you have articles or content you'd like to offer, we'd be happy to include your expertise with full credit given to you for your articles.

In exchange for your help and input, we'll create a Web page for those who contribute to this site. The page will include your name, business info, links, etc., to help you promote your own businesses and services. We'll even put your banner ads on the sites pages to help you get some promotion for your business.

Let us know if you would like to contribute, and in what area. Much of what we've already done can be edited and/or corrected, and we're open to your thoughts. The point is to help the growing number of people who want to develop an online presence and are getting stuck between registering a domain and actually creating a Web site.
