Why should I have a website?
There are many reasons people and businesses decide to set up a website. Maybe for business exposure and increased sales, sharing of information, entertainment, a personal online presence, or any of a variety of reasons. Practically anyone has the ability to set up some type of website.
The most obvious advantage of setting up a website is exposure around the globe. This aspect can be a huge benefit to businesses in that they can sell products and services in distant locations when it wasn't practical, or possible, previously. The other obvious benefit is customers; by expanding your potential customer base, you are increasing your opportunity for sales, and also have the ability to adapt your products and services for new customer bases.
Even if you aren't selling products or expanding your businesses' customer base, there are many other reasons to set up a website. Many people set up sites for their families so that they can stay in contact with each other as a group. Other may set up a site to promote a cause or charity they work with. Still others want to create online communities, game or video sites, sites devoted to their favorite breed of dog, sites to debate politics, informational websites, and even websites just to talk about themselves. Many of these can be monetized so that, even if the site owner doesn't become wealthy from his site, he might still make enough to pay for hosting costs.
Basically, websites can be set up for almost anything that anyone wants to do. The area of personal blogging has exploded in recent years, showing that anyone can get their message, ideas and thoughts out into cyberspace. Thousands of sites offer free downloads of software, images, and other items to promote businesses and products. Job listing sites, auction sites and classified ads sites have all been successful.
So, why should you set up a website? Well, for any reason you want, when you get right down to it.
